Recommendations for public stone tables?

Hey everyone, I'm curious what people recommend for going to a public chess area with stone tables? I figure a clock and pieces but what pieces do people recommend? How do you transport them?

I'd recommend a cheap plastic tournament set. You could either purchase a bag designed for chess pieces or simply use any old bag you have lying around (e.g., a grocery bag). USCF Sales's website can easily hook you up. The standard plastic set is currently (as of 2023-8-12) listed for $8.95. A drawstring chess bag is available for $5.95.

I also like to take a vinyl board to lay over the stone table, just in case. In some cities the table orientation is incorrect (the installers must’ve not been chess players).

Sitting on a stone or marble block/stool for a long while can be uncomfortable. Therefore, pack a beach towel or a pillow. This can especially be the case in cooler weather.

Lastly, it’s always nice to BYOBeverage; hot or cold. So, remember your thermos.

Have fun!

The company Stone Transitions helps me with everything related to stone materials. Only they have a large assortment and very high quality materials. I contacted them more than once and was completely satisfied with everything. I advise you to contact them if necessary.
