Silman's "Amateur's Mind" or "Reassess your chess"?

Hello everybody! I'm about to finish my first chess book: Chernev's "Logical Chess: Step by Step" and I wanted to read one of those 2 Silman's books that I mentioned in the title. I don't know if anyone of those 2 is suitable for my level, or if it is preferable to read one of those 2 before the other one. Moreover, whichever is best to read, how should I read/study it in order to make the most of it? With Chernev's book I did the "guess the move", playing the matches on the physical board, and only checking out variations if my guess was incorrect and contemplated among the variations written in the book. It took me some 3 or 4 months I think to (almost) finish it (I expect to finish it this week or the next).

Thanks a lot in advance!

Silman recommends Amateur's Mind be read first since Reassess is based on principles introduced there.  Alas I have no advice as to how to study it since I probably just skimmed it (highly NOT recommended) and went on to not study something else.  Sigh...

Did a quick search and found 14 pages of threads that at least mention Amateur's Mind.  Have fun!

Thank you! Yes, I had already taken a look at old forums. The thing of reading Amateur before Reasses I had seen it before. Just wanted to make sure. But I couldn't find anything about which level you must be to be able to read those books. also some tips to read them from someone who read them already

i think reassess is way ut of your league atm. if oyu want a silman book get the endgame one. if you want apositional strategic book get chess strategy for club players

Thanks! Endgame course already have it. I'll take a look at your recommendation

Of those two I would choose Lasker’s Manual of Chess.

I would offer the opinion that you should focus on The Amateur's Mind before any of the others.  It'll give you a good basis for the others.

Excelent!  Dan's the Man, indeed!  Even I should be able to handle Step 1... tongue.png

Read Amateur's Mind first, i.e., before attempting HRYC.

I comment on both books in the following...

Thanks everyone for all the info!

Consider getting and reading Seirawan's Winning Chess Strategies before reading any of these.  I think the reading order recommendation(s) in this thread are pretty accurate.
