Silman's Response

benws, I can hardly wait either for the 4rth edition but I'm glad Silman remains committed to unparalelled quality even when many would cave to the pressure and rush the release.

3rd edition was great.. I dunno how much it really contributed, but I felt like I was 200-300 points better after reading it all :)

$29.95 - Currently showing a release date of October 15th 2010.

Edit: 2010 10 04 - Silman called it. Now showing a release date of December 1st 2010.
Last year, I read a forum post where a member of chess.com messaged IM Jeremy Silman and asked him when the fourth edition of his book How To Reassess Your Chess (http://amzn.to/aUTb9W) would be coming out.
In the post, he said that the book would be out no later than March of 2010. Well, it is now October and the book is still not out yet, so I messaged IM Silman and asked him about it. Here is his response:
"While others crack out books in a few months, I take anywhere from 2 to 5 years. Why? Cause I want to do something new and original, I want to give chess fans something incredibly instructive, and I want to do the best job I can. I don't make as much money this way (cracking out 5 or 6 books in the same amount of time would make me a lot more), but I owe it to my readers to do the best I possibly can. Besides, who needs another same-ol same-ol type book?
This turned out to be far harder than I imagined, and ultimately it ended up as a 672 page (oversize pages, like Silman's Complete Endgame Course) monster. But, I honestly feel it is (by far) the best thing I've ever done.
Aside from writing the book, typesetting it took the typesetter a long time since we try to make it more artistic than other by the numbers typesetting jobs. The cover is also a piece of art ... just wonderful. And the book was proofed over and over in an effort to make it as clean as possible (no book is without errors, but we can certainly keep them to a minimum).
It's all done now, and I only need to go over it once more to make sure corrections were done properly and all is well. Then off to the printer it will go (in a few days!). Then the printer will send me a blue-line, I will look over that again, send it back to them, and finally ... BIRTH.
Few realize the pain and anguish that goes into the whole book process (and I make a point of being very hands on in this process). Trust me, it's anything but easy.
It WILL be out no later than mid November, and perhaps a bit earlier than that.
