You guys are brave, wow. wink.png I'm still waiting for a response (going on 10 days now with 3 emails in total - not to mention the web-app chats).

My bliss began when my divorce was finalized 40 years ago!

The three sets I've purchased from SC were shipped directly from India.

Thanks Lou, that's what I feared. The Canadian address is probably just intended to assuage the fears of those who distrust remote addresses. Orders may or may not even route through there. Either way its clear that there is no North American warehousing, and no 'old school' western style service  to service custom orders or special requests. Actually, a business as small as that should be able to easily service special requests and custom orders, especially if the North American middle-man is an illusion intended to propose them as a a greater corporate entity than they really are, or less sinister, to provide an additional degree of separation between the retailing and manufacturing arms to prevent the inconvenience of one on one negotiations that might prove more awkward than they would otherwise because of language difficulties. But its anybody's guess.

If possible, I would try and order from Staunton Castle's eBay store. In case things go south, eBay (as a buyer) will have your back. And try to pay with Amex in case of a last ditch chargeback. Amex CS is good like that.

Lou! You're killin' me! That divorce comment keeled me over with laughter.

Please refrain from any more..  I'm a Covid survivor and don't know how much I can take.

I checked. Their store doesn't carry the set I want. Closes that door.

I second this one. I don't have anything I want other than a few minor items. However, I dare not order any chess stuff from HoS, CB, SC, or any other chess supplier until the clogged up system clears up.

Brynmr

Good advice. I'll wait til we all start getting responses to our emails and queries.

I'm hoping that in 6 months a lot of sets that we're bought recently are going to be sold on eBay and other platforms with significant price cuts.

I was thinking the same thing. Some of the sets from Noj's 4 to 5 month waiting list might show up on eBay by the end of 2021. It could be a fire sale. I think probably not but I can always dream.

Getting in front of the curve - anyone got a Danum Series 4.4" Premium Staunton chess set they want to sell me? grin.png

Sounds like a good plan!

Covid survivor? Me too, join the club. Luckily, I had a mild case.

I ordered a set from HoS on Tuesday and it was delivered today (Friday), so that's a good sign.  Unwilling to jack around with USPS any more, I did select the "UPS Next Day Air Saver" for shipping but it was worth it for this (rather big) order.

Brynmr

What did you get? Come on, Dave, spill the beans.

Ok, I'm down right pissed off at Staunton Castle. I've queried 3 times in the new year and no response. It's Jan 9! Time to step up and serve your customers, Mandeep - for crying out loud!

MCH818

@GrandPatzerDave Wow! I don't know if that's good news or bad news. I guess it is good news for you and bad news for others. Maybe the rush passed already.

I am starting to agree with you. I don't know SC's situation but if HoS can do it I cannot see why SC cannot. It is starting to get ridiculous.

Regarding the lack of communication, you'd think Staunton Castle was located on 'FarFarOut,' the most distant celestial body (dwarf planet) in our solar system, which is an apt location given how remote their concern is for their customers. Perhaps they're so well-heeled that they no longer need our business, or any business for that matter!

Wait! I think there're some messages coming in from Staunton Castle on FarFarOut, they should be arriving here sometime next month (if we're lucky). So hold onto your suspenders in the meantime.

On a positive note, we should all be relieved they're not manufacturing a Covid vaccine! That would go a long way to reducing the surplus population! "
