In a rare display of ignorance what, please, is the correct word for the King's headpiece? A mitre? And also the Q and B? Toques!?!
Thanks.
I think they're called finials?

See #12 and #14. To my untrained eye, the rooks in the reproduction appear considerably shorter than the rooks pictured in the historical photographs. Is it me or are the proportions off?

Thanks for this. Progress!
I guess what I should have really asked is what historical representation or symbolism is intended or meant by these 'finial' shapes?
Main problem is lack of originality and proportion with this fake copy of soviet set. Of course, copies are copies and that is the main reason why they never acquire vintage value.
Go jump in a lake. Preferably, a lava lake.
Another nice addition to what appears to be a penultimate chess set collection(that anyone would like to have)......I would like to ask the esteemed Stauntonmaster a question, unless he spins or dodges it........Why would you want to take away the pleasure and pride of ownership from someone nice enough to post about something they covet?

...which would be a major issue if you were so dull and joyless that future monetary value of an item was your main criteria for buying anything at all. You sound like a fun guy to be around. OP - it looks amazing.
Many thanks, Cameron!
I just found this post. A gorgeous design and wonderful variation. Chuck, your photographs do a terrific job of presenting Kuznetsov's craftsmanship. It must have been very satisfying for you to have contributed to this effort. Thank you for sharing.

Many thanks, Jeff. My contributions were minimal, but very satisfying nonetheless. Yurii did a terrific job.
Chuck, did you ask for extra weighting in your set? You mentioned yours was heavily weighted. I got mine today, and it is definitely weighted, but not as heavily as most of my sets.
