WOW!!!! Really like that white/Ivory. Wouldn't mind that at all, not sure what the cream looks like, not a fan of yellowish white pieces.
Ultimate chess set

I would love to have the set in ivory white, more traditional and it would be my first choice. If you decide on making them in cream and ivory white I would like one of each when my order is fulfilled. I have 2 Ultimate sets already pre-paid. Thank you Mr. Lohrman.
Hooo...hoooooooooo hoooo... ho man....those look BEAUTIFUL. They say it really is the small things in life. And little things like this really do make all of life better. I was actually, truly, honestly a little depressed when I discovered the original was no longer available. It didn't make my life worse, but it was something really cool that was missing. To see that this chess set is back, the one I saw them play with at tournaments (we couldn't afford them at my club), and that now I can get as many as I want, really is awesome. And...from the photos...it's not that shiny stuff, it's a beautiful matte black and white. Very appreciative that they are back. Am going to look into ordering soon. They can't make a set heavy enough for me. I am for always, at any time, as heavy of a set as is possible to make. If I were rich, I would have a set custom made, the DGT design, hollowed out, and filled with pure Osmium to be the heaviest chess set possible to make at that size. I like them to EXPLODE with a CLUNK when they hit the board. I like them to sound like a shotgun when you move a piece. Anyway, to all parties responsible for this, thank you for the effort, and you have made the world a bit better place for it.
Shelby, you have truly done a beautiful job.
I am new to chess. Although he doesn't own a set or board, my grandson is in love with the game and now I am learning all about it. I pre ordered this Set and Blue Board as a Christmas gift and can't wait to see his reaction. Nice lasting memory from Grandma!

As you and your grandson are new to chess, you may find my blog to be of interest....

Have a Merry Christmas!

Thanks Mr. Lohrman. When the ivory white is made available I will definitely buy a set or two. Please keep us informed, you have my vote for yes to make the set in ivory white.
Thank you RussBell for your Blog. I suck so badly right now that it's nice to have you as a teacher.
On a side note...Shelby, how do I know if I have been "chosen" to get my preorder filled? Should I look at purchasing a different set from you or another site (heaven forbid) to ensure I have a chess set for my grandson on Christmas? If I am lucky to get your set but it's late arriving, a picture of it in a wrapped box will do! LOL
Hi there again Shelby,

Well, after all my weeks and weeks of research (results of not knowing a cotton picken thing about a chess piece) and finally placing the preorder, I would have to say the last forum comment I read was from Mike confirming I made the right decision.
Thank you for suggesting another option but I'll graciously wait for the Ultimate Chess Set to arrive. The picture of it will get him excited.
Thank You
Darlene

Be aware that there are lots of varying opinions out there about which chess pieces are the best, greatest, most fantastic, etc., etc....
I am not going to disparage the Ultimate Chess Set, which I have no prior experience with. I ordered them primarily because I want to see what the fuss is all about, and am hopeful that they will live up to all the hype - I have no reason to believe they won't be very good pieces.
On the other hand, I do own a "Cavalier" set (of the English "Staunton" style, not the French "Lardy"), though not the specific incarnation offered by Shelby, rather, a set which I purchased in 1989. I find the Staunton-Cavalier design attractive. This set-style has been manufactured and offered by several companies over the years with variations in the types of plastics used. See post #145 for a photo of what appears to me what might be - based on the overall design, but particularly of the knight which is the signature piece of the Staunton-Cavalier style - the Cavalier set offered by Shelby. I say "might be" because the photo is actually of what is currently advertised on Shelby's AmChessEq.com site as the Bobby Fischer Series pieces, so it's not clear if these are the same as the Cavalier pieces Shelby has recently referred to...

The following forum thread from 2015 regarding the Cavalier Set offered then by AmChessEq.com appears to indicate that those Cavalier pieces, and the Fischer Series pieces offered on the site today are in fact the same pieces....

Shelby - can you offer clarification on this, regarding your Cavalier set? That is, is your Fischer Series set the same as your Cavalier set? A photo of the Cavalier set would be helpful.

That looks more like yellow than cream to me. Cream does contain yellow, but that looks a little strong for my taste. I really like the ivory or possibly a softer shade of cream. I guess a 50-50 run would not be possible.

According to that second photo's color chart it matches the "Pantone" yellow color palate swatch. I'll take it either way but I'd like to see the ivory white on the second round of orders which I've seen are very favorable to other members and definitely from me who have expressed a lot of interest in getting the ivory white version. Thank you for the update Mr. Lohrman.
I placed my order Nov.10 after seeing the Ivory/black set,Shelby I'm hoping you'll consider giving us who perfer the ivory pieces the option.
If you look at the photo of the pawns and read what Shelby wrote you will realize that this is a photo sent to him from the manufacturer in China. He doesn't have the pieces yet to take different pictures.
What I would like to see is a comparison of this color of the original Ultimate set to this color. Now, that would be more informative to me.

The yellowish or "natural" color many chess set are sold as look like white pieces that have been sitting in a smoke filled room for 20 years to me. I understand not everyone is as annoyingly picky as myself, the yellow hue just looks "dirty" to me.
I agree, the 127U Pantone swatch doesn't look as yellow as the sample picture. Still, a little disappointing for me after seeing those nice ivory pieces.
I'm sure many of the customers that owned the original pieces might have a different opinion, having a nostalgic connection in what I am assuming is the original color. I can understand that.
I guess the white/ivory sets are just what I prefer.
Thanks for progress updates. No matter what cant please everyone all of the time. :-)
Let's try this:
Here is the color pasted from above:
And here is a picture from the website of the original Ultimate set:
The two colors actually look similar at first glance.

The color of the "White" pieces posted on the website also look yellowish (ugh!) to me - certainly not cream/natural. Especially against the white squares of the chess board in the photo.
Good thing I keep checking this thread! Shelby's email ended up in my spam folder.
