that is the first thing i was thinking... they do have some Dubrovnik features. i like the wide or broad base... would like to find this set too.

Absolutely no clue, please don't take this the wrong way, but the knight looks like a doberman getting ready to attack :)

now that you mention it... it does.
I did an image search and found the 60 Minutes video on YouTube.
That was a simul with Magnus Carlsen when he was a boy.
In that video clip he looks to be between 10 and 12 years old.

Looked up broadbase chessmen (broadbase sjakkbrikker), found these:

I purchased this set about 15 years ago. I think Mangus was 9 years old then.

Don't know, but simul looks like it was in Norway?
Okay, I think i found them.
Thanks for the idea... i was thinking that the simul took place in Norway. Just hit me to look up the chessmen in the Nowegian language after your comment. Thanks!

Translated Description of the set:
The popular wooden pieces found in a majority clubs in Norway. Comes now normal in cloth bag velvet to £ 200. Also available without cloth bag to £ 180 per set.
Kong height is 82 mm. Simple but neat pieces without the filters below.
Appropriate to the chessboard where the fields are about 50 x 50 mm, but we know that many people also prefer the folding plastic trays with panels 55 x 55 mm along with them. Does not fit as well on wooden board, then it becomes hard and a little noise and wear when moving out of three against three, without the filters.
The set is about $25.00 US (180 Krone) +shipping, I think.
Seems the store is listing the price in pounds, if this is correct, the set is $280.00 US +shipping, that is a little more than I expected.
Okay, they set is 200kr ($24.00 US), plus shipping. Question now, do they ship to the United States.

They are called a Swedish Competition Chess Set
Svensk tävlingsmodell, which translates as "Swedish competition model"

found them on another webiste for 56 Kr, I think that is about $7.00 US.

Okay, just translated this page and its an auction of some kind.
Just sent them an email.. will post back if I find out anything. I guess from the price they are unweighted but, the wide bases should make them very stable IMO.

I just can't get over how ugly those pawns are. Might as well be an obese person with a tiny head!
Have you evern played the game called Sorry.
I swear those pawns look exactly like the Sorry Pawn's lol. Just slightly bigger and less colorful.

if i were a knight, bishop, rook, etc... that is the pawn i would want standing in front of me
chess pieces ain't have to be pretty, they just chess pieces...

i sent them an email last night too, will do the same if I hear form them.
i emailed them in english, if i dont get a reply in a few days i will try emailing them in norwegian.
i think the pieces are both un-weighted and un-felted. made for vinyl, paper, or cardboard boards... club and tournament use.
Can anyone identify these chess pieces?
