Pretty hype

Should offer DGT-enabled as an upgrade like HoS and Noj.

Are these outfits deliberately misleading, or don't know what they are talking about?

Avatar of Eyechess

Perhaps it nothing negative.  Fischer spoke about each of the 3 different sets.

He bought the set that looks like the Noj Minceta and it was sold off for lack of rent payment in a storage unit.

Torres bought the later one for him when in the Philippines.

And there was one of the original 1950 sets used during the 1992 Fischer-Spassky match.

Getting a trifle tired of some of the pedantry here.

Real life: "180,000+ people have died of or with Covid19 in the US alone."

Forum: "My queen has only five crenelations, not six. Criminals! Warning: Do not buy!"

Real life: "Nearly 40,000 people in the US have been killed by guns in 2017 alone."

Forum: "This mane on my knight looks slightly different than advertised. Fake! How can they do that?"

Things go on in the world (and the chess world, too) that are morre important than some nit-picking on small wooden toys for nerds.

Yeah, and the nice thing is that you and I are both in this group.

And what does Version 3.0 mean?  What was version 1.0 and 2.0 ??

You should become informed before you spout off.  You apparently do not know of the different versions or makes of the Dubrovnik Chess sets.  You even do not appear to know the difference between the original 1950 set and the 1950 version, sheesh.

Trolling again I see.

Actually if you would look up the definition of trolling, it is you being the one doing it here.

A Covid survivor here   and the previous post by Sound67(#12) is absolutely dead accurate!

Covid and politics - the reasons why I've been away from everything chess since December 2019.

I have been tempted a number of times to do the same.

We really have seen very few topics about interesting sets, boards or clocks as we used to see regularly not that long ago.

Many of our stronger posters have pretty much faded away and not posted anything for quite awhile.

QtoQlevel3, let me know when you go.  I believe I will accompany you on the exit.

Will do 👁♟. When Izmet Fekali ships me my last BCE 3D Blitz colored order I will display those beauties, comment a little then say goodbye to everyone and just fade away...Perhaps around the end of this month. I expect the parcel to arrive sometime in the last week of September.

It's kind of a shame, I was going to give the 411 on my new chess table which arrives in late October early November, and comment on a new chess table that will be available from The Maestro himself Frank Camaratta but that will never transpire from me...just a few nuggets of info I've yet but will not discuss or disclose...ever!

Well, maybe I have become a bit selfish of sorts.  A few years ago, I was small time in the number of sets I owned.  And I have never spent more than $600 US on a set.  I looked forward to seeing new sets, to me, from posters like cgrau, goodknightmike, rcmacmillan, and a host of others.  And wouldn’t you know it, there would always be a set that I just had to buy.

And if it wasn’t for this place I would have never known about Colorado Woodworker and his great boards.  Also, Carl of Official Staunton would post a lot with ideas and then the actual production of sets from them.

Sure, today we still have Ronbo, magictwanger, and of course sound67 making great and informative posts.  But it has been quite a time since I have seen something new, to me, that I just needed to buy.

It is also an interesting note that cgrau stopped coming here with a true dislike for a certain poster that has posted negatively in this thread motivating QtoQlevel3 and me to go off into the sunset.

I am very new here. I came over from Twitch as I mixed my 'refreshed' love for chess with video games and the PogChamps Tournaments that have done incredibly well with younger new players. In the two months I have been browsing this particular forum of chess equipment, I have come to know individual personalities. From stoic to friendly to informative etc, it has been interesting and I admit that certain men here have been the reason I have bought four sets in a few weeks lol. I have fallen in love with the Chavet, the Lardy, the Dubrovnik, Drueke vintage boards and the rush of research, the feel of vintage pieces and general attitude displayed in this tiny part of the forums. I loathe facebook and the general chess forum community as it seems fill with toxicity and lack of anything compelling. Anyway even though I am a stranger I definitely appreciate the few here that post with enthusiasm and knowledge. I understand if you fade away but please know that many have enjoyed your input, even quietly. wink.png

Very agree with you. I prefer to read most of the posts quietly rather than participating.

For all the great and respected collectors' and members of this great chess community, a quote from Robert O'Sullivan

“I remember a time where Trolls were a fictitious monster from fairy tales, not arseholes on the internet looking for attention.”

Keep up with the good work gentlemen!

Oh,C'mon! Nobody needs to go and I really doubt many of you guys would be happy leaving this site.

I wouldn't want to see that....Even the instigators have their entertainment value, imo.

First off, even when we have a dispute,or someone says something negative,or "Trolls".....though my grand kids love that show......It is unlikely that anyone will be at your door the next day,or murder you while you are asleep!

This site is informative and plain fun.....Sometimes the heated stuff kinda' makes me laugh....IT'S NO BIGGIE!

Besides,if you guys leave, you'll miss out on my finally having gotten a smart phone and the possibility of  showing my collection and chess/ hobby room set up......No promises on time frame.-happy.png

I have been posting in this forum for a number of years. I enjoy our thoughtful discussions (and bypass the thoughtless ones). I also enjoy seeing all the beautiful chess sets shared by our various members, especially our more 'serious' collectors (kudos).

It would be a shame if we allowed a few bad apples to spoil it for the rest of us. We shouldn't allow these interlopers to ruin our forum by chasing away some of our most valued contributors. If the moderators can't (or won't) maintain order, then it is up to us to stand up to these rabble-rousing bullies! It's not exactly the behavior of emotionally stable, well-adjusted adults.

We may not be able to delete their posts, but we can, en masse, decide not to read them. And, by not reading them, we won't be tempted to respond. If we don't like the fire, then we should stop feeding the flames! Stop giving them what they want, a bully pulpit, and the satisfaction of arousing and disrupting others. It's a shame, but if this is the only way they can get their kicks, then they must be leading some pretty sad and pitiful lives.

Ultimately, we CAN defeat them painlessly. How? We fight their ignorance by IGNORING them! We fight their shouting by our SILENCE, we simply don't respond, and we don't respond to those who respond to them. We avoid fanning the flames like we avoid potholes in the roadway, we go around them! WE win by ghosting THEM!

I would urge any of our longterm forum members who are considering leaving to reconsider and give this ghosting tactic a try before departing. You are valued contributions and we'd hate to see you go. Our forum would be diminished with your leaving.

@loubalch "We may not be able to delete their posts, but we can, en masse, decide not to read them." Actually I think if you block someone they can't respond in a thread you start. So if enough people block a troll they find they can't do their thing anymore.

Avatar of QtoQlevel3

Good day @ Lou Balch.

I have adopted the exact same premise of ignoring many religious and political topics and attacking and insulting the type of responding posts from various trolls on this worldwide site.

The list as of this past month grew of members  I have on my "Block this member" listing & I have no time or reason to hear from those type of "trolling" individuals, but when the powers that be intervened and censor my personal message to another member, that's the proverbial straw that broke the camel''s back!

Mind you, that the private messages are just that...PRIVATE...meaning that no other member will ever read what I've posted only the member I'm messaging and the powers that be and I do follow any rules involving harsh, threatening, bullying, or indecent type of language and or statements.

What really had me over-torqued was that my message to a member was completely omitted just because I was discussing a certain crafter of chess boards with this member and mentioned by name that I would deal with the source of such boards giving better deals in the long run, instead of dealing with a distributor on our side of the Atlantic.

Now you tell me this is the reason for my message to be completely erased and I was given a stern warning??!!  Give me a break!!!

The moment I hit the send key was when the message completed, it was instantaneously deleted and it prompted a warning and THREAT of possible suspension of my account if I ever repeated such a discussion or interacted in such behavior "breaking community rules"! Again give me a break, what an absurd ruling and to threaten me with an account suspension! Time to "Exit Stage Left" for me.

This ridiculous threat action is the main reason that has prompted my stoppage of posting maneuver, just so you know.

There are many more roughly worded and insulting posts on open forums that trolls are allowed to get away with from the same powers that be.

If my personal message upset anyone in the higher-ups, then it's time to develop a thicker skin, but not to worry management, my days are posting are quickly waning to the point of disappearance.

For you Lou Balch, and the rest of the fine members I have gotten to know either by relating and commenting to their posts or to the silent group who just read to gain knowledge, It has been my pleasure to speak with you to give and share opinions, insights and photo images of such information that I have accumulated since joining this website 9 years ago in this month of September.

My account would probably remain active but as far as posting I will be the muted bystander or "From the outside looking in..." so to speak, from time to time to see the latest, greatest, and newest looking chess equipment and chess-related stories that have yet to be viewed and read about.

My eventual and inevitable fading will commence soon, as in that image of a male facial profile fading and breaking up into many fragmented pieces.

As the late, great Paul Harvey used to say when he signed off " ...and now you know the REST of the story"
