What about Certabo quality ?

Does anyone has a Certabo Angel Board ? what is the global quality of the board and where is it manufactured (in Italy ? or in China ?).

And regarding Tabutronic, it looks good but the photo shows a USB port in front of the player instead of being on the left or right side like with the other manufacturers ... it seems strange as many players put their arms or knees on the table, so there is a risk to break the port when plugged to a usb cable.

So does anyone has an experience with these boards ?

The Certabo is manufactured in Italy and the quality is excellent. The Certabo wooden pieces would be in the mid to budget range of quality.

I have no experience of the Tabutronic. The main issue I would have with the USB port is that it would be unsightly.

Thanks @jjupiter6, regarding the "challengers boards" (so not talking about DGT and Millennium) I had quite bad experience like some other people when unboxing a Chessnut Air. This board had a very strong and bad solvent smell, maybe the varnish.

Does the Certabo has this kind of problem ?

Thanks for your advise

It has been 4 years since I got mine so I don't remember 100%, but I don't recall any strong solvent smell or anything else when I first got it.

I bought mine in 2018 and have played a game or two most nights on it without problem. Besides playing against all the ultra strong UCI engines that are available, you can also play against 300+ old chess computer ROMS plus a variety of Certabo Avatars like Fischer, Botvinnik etc and obviously you can play online. You can use your phone to play with Chess for Android or CertabOdroid (not sure what is available for iOS). It's been worth every penny and Certabo customer service is second to none. Sorry I don't have a Tabutronic board.

The mobile app needs to be enhanced, if you ask me. Apart from a "custom" version of DroidFish, called "CertabOdroid", there is no native app that properly supports Chess dotcom and Lichess. One option could be to develop an app for just online play. It's just a thought. Ciao happy

About 10 days ago I got an e-chess board Tabutronic Sentio 45 mm square for the price of €361 with shipping. The board is extremely aesthetic and very beautiful. Together with the board, you also get very nice figures, but unfortunately, due to the magnets and small design, they attract each other annoyingly, although you can play with them, but carefully. So I equipped my pieces of equivalent dimensions with maybe very minimal slightly weaker 15mm diameter X 1mm thick neodymium magnets and it all works phenomenally with the chessconnect app on Lichess and Chess.com. I play for 10 minutes or more and there are no problems either when moving the opponent's pieces or when moving my own. I was looking for a board with a square of 45 mm because the DGT Pegasus was too small for me, despite the fact that the DGT Pegasus also works perfectly through android applications. Tabutronic also works perfectly through Android applications, but somehow I prefer to use it through PC and Windows. The difference between DGT Pegasus and Tabutronic is that DGT Pegasus has a built-in rechargeable battery, while Tabutronic is powered from a PC or from a phone or tablet. I think that the power supply from the device is much better, because the batteries wear out and you have to buy new ones. In addition, the battery of the DGT Pegasus is extremely bad and when it gets below 50% charge it needs to be charged and the panel calibrated several times, but the easiest solution is to additionally connect a power bank. Therefore, I am much more satisfied with the method. that Tabutronic has, you connect it to a PC or phone and there is no problem with energy and no problem with calibration. Finally, I can say that for the price of €361 Tabutronic is really a very good purchase, and I am really satisfied with the board and enjoy playing chess.

@KNAVFAR, for €361, should you have had to go through all these fixes? I'm surprised that you didn't recommend against buying this board. You must enjoy tinkering. Good luck with the board, though.
