I konw nothing (but I´m not from Barcelona). I guess that the pieces are made in the mid 20th century somewhere i eastern Europe (USSR). If the very nice box originally came with the pieces? I have no idea.
What can you tell me about this 2.5" vintage set and box?

The knight heads seem similar to those found in French régence-style sets of the early 1900s. Did some makers of régence-style sets also make Staunton-style sets and use the same knight heads for both?

Nice set you found!
I believe USSR is improbable, there, the king's cross and mitre cut normally do not occur. The bishop in Russian is 'slon'- the elephant. So it is rather the elephant's tusk (singular), if they built on the Islamic design, if it travelled along with the piece's name. (The symbolic upright and parting elephant's tusks are supposed to be the origin of the western interpretations as bishop's mitre and jester's cap, too). And if thinking of a religious equivalent put into the design of the Russian elephants, minarets like of St.Basil's Cathedral come to mind.
For the French lead, let me add a photo I took of my Regence chessmen for comparison of the knights, please.

That is a nice set, @ungewichtet! I think I'd like to pick up a Régence set eventually. Yes, the knights' heads on my small set are similar to that. Do you have an estimated date for your set?

I have no date, but chess-museum.com has a page with 17 regency sets and one of them is, you'd say, identical, with the king 92mm there, 80mm mine, I hope it is okay to bring the pic over here:
It says made in France around 1900, but it gives no further information.
Your dog faced are great and I see they are special for the long way from the Adam's apple to the breast, but I do not think they are especially related to the dog faced Regence ones. Let's see who can help. Meanwhile, congrats on the find, all the pieces are quite special and well made, to my eye.

It is grotesque. Moderators, please close hayesmills. Only good thing about this garbage is it will do no good for but only harm chessbazaar. Littering all over the place.

The faces of the knights in particular do seem to suggest a mid-20th century standard Bohemia set. The box surely never belonged to the pieces originally.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll probably not get a definitive date or country of origin, but it is fascinating to explore and learn more about old sets. Here are some more photos (on a smaller than ideal 32 mm square board). The bright light has highlighted scratches, scuffs, and dust that you can't really see with your eyes in normal light. I've only recently bought them, but will eventually dust and polish them up a bit.

Chessmaster_diamond, which Bohemia set do you mean? The rare dragon knights can hardly be confused with dog faced knights. Is the most common/classic/long living Bohemia design, like on the following photo, also the standard mid-20th century one you had in mind? I have difficulty making any sense of hayesmills' post other than a commercial break and willful nonsense hurting the discussion.
I recently bought this 2.5" set off eBay in the UK. I don't know why, but I was drawn to the odd looking knights. I suppose they come under the dogface category, but to me they remind me a bit of a panther or jaguar. I don't know if the ornate box is the original box for the set. Can anyone tell me anything about this set? Is it probably French-made? What about possible date? Early to mid 1900s? Any insights would be appreciated.
