If you're still looking for a way to add weight to the pieces, since as you said they are hollow, you could mix some lead bird shot with epoxy and pour it into the pieces. I've done this to weight Morse code keys and it works well. You just need to find a way to hang the pieces upside down for a few hours until the epoxy sets up.
