Wooden Blocks For Your Chessboard

Just thought this might be helpful to some of the board owners out there; as you probably know, it is best to store boards vertically (e.g., leant against a wall) so that both sides of it are exposed to air flow, however, if you would like to store a board horizontally in ready-to-play position, I find these $2 wooden blocks from Ikea to be very useful: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/bergenes-holder-for-mobile-phone-tablet-bamboo-10457999/. The basic idea is to use at least two of them to rest your board on, which gives it clearance from the table surface; I use four of these blocks (stacked two per side) with two felted wooden blocks to achieve this:

It also creates a "floating board" effect, which is very cool.

Does air flow really matter? I didn't know about this.

Yes; if only one side of a solid-wood board is exposed to air-flow (i.e., humidity), it can cause the board to warp, because the wood on each side is exposed to unequal humidity.

Makes sense I suppose I never even thought about it. Thank you.

I’ve opted to store my boards in chess bags that chesshouse.com sells. I also kept packets of silicate with the boards in the bags. I still sit the bags upright.

Well the bonus of a bag is that it prevents dust accumulation which can actually scratch the board if not removed properly; it would also in theory provide a more stable environment for the board (I've considered this with pieces/boxes as well, but I've opted to leave both out of boxes/bags so I can be sure of the humidity they're exposed to).
