Old Lessons

You'll need to use the website.

Yes, where did the old lessons go? It used to say old lessons under “mastery” but now it doesn’t show up at all. I was enjoying working through them on my MBP OS 10.11.6

@Boogalicious not all of the old lessons have been moved to the "new" lessons section. I was working through the chess.com mentor "study plan". The "study plan" is part of the old lessons. With the link now gone I HAVE NO WAY TO GET TO THE STUDY PLAN. I am at master level in the study plan. Many of the old lessons are EXCELLENT. Now I have no way to get back to the "study section".
Fyi. I actually also am doing the new video lessons and on this format I am at advanced level. I see value in the old AND new lessons. I cannot understand why the link has been taken away. It's not as if it was "hurting" anyone or causing any issues with the functioning of the site. It was just a link fir crying out loud. BUT IT WAS AN IMPORTANT LINK TO ME BECAUSE IT GAVE ME ACCESS TO THE STUDY PLAN SECTION of the old lessons. With it gone I HAVE ZERO WAY TO CONTINUE MY STUDY PLAN!!!!!

Please please please to the powers that be....please bring back the link to the old lessons or point us to the archive url url where they are being stored...so that we may continue learning from them. @erik @dallin @jdcannon I hope you see this message and others I have posted explaining why it was such a BAD IDEA to just remove the link to the old lessons!!!

I agree! Chess.com please bring back the old lessons in all formats, I prefer to no not use my 9 yr old laptop but I have to now to access them. Especially when you present lesson stats based on completion of the old lessons

Stats for Lessons are already gone on beta.

I just discovered the old lessons yesterday and found great joy in doing Silman's rook endgame course. The instructions were amazing and the level was just right. The new lessons do not seem to cover as much, are not as comprehensive (for example if you want to really master rook endgames) and geared towards beginner to intermediate but not advanced.
Please bring back the old lessons.

@Martin_Stahl yes I saw that the "old" lesson stats are no longer available in beta. My personal opinion on the ditching of a proper mathematical elo type rating system to measure a learner's performance over time as he or she undertakes and completes more and more lessons and "absorbs" more knowledge is a TOTAL step backwards. All the learning systems like Chess King and others have a proper elo type mathematical model to track learner ability and results. We had a proper "outcomes based" system. Now? Now we have an almost infantile "childish" 3 crowns system that cannot be mathematically agreggated over time to show a learner's performance. The new scoring system is better suited to chess kids and not for adults serious about studying chess and seeing their ongoing performance. In fact....now there is no such system available anymore at all...as one cannot feasibly add 2 crowns here, one crown there into a feasible and meaningful learning metric. Quite frankly the new system is laughable. These are naturally my views...but it really does feel like chess.com product development has "dumbed down" their learning metric system. One has seen it executed with puzzles/tactics and now it has been implemented with lessons. I really think it is a TOTAL step backwards.
Hello , i totally agree with you . Suddenly i could not find the old lessons anymore .
Best regards , Quorum

@Martin_Stahl and others, I haven’t tried the Beta and don’t actually understand how it works. Is it the future chess.com “under construction”?

@flashlight002 spot on! It is demeaning getting judged with crowns instead of a % based on accuracy. The way they had the old lessons set out before was fine but they could improve it sooo much! For those that can bare Magnus, the Magnus trainer app has a brilliant set up for progressive learning. If chess.com had something like that I would literally aim to finish the over 3000 lessons available

@Hawkwindfan88 hi. In relation to your question what is the beta program :
When you join the beta program you then view and use the beta version of chess.com. This beta version on the whole looks and functions exactly like the normal site BUT there are sections, features and functions available on the beta website that you won't find on the normal site. These sections, features and functions are "works in progress" that will sooner or later make their way to the normal site. They will only make their way to the normal site when the developers feel they have ironed out all the bugs and problems that may be occurring with these new areas, designs, features and functions. So when one signs up to use the beta site expect that on "new" sections" or "new pages" or "new features/functions" there could be bugs or instability. As part of the beta community when you experience these bugs one should report it to support@chess.com, stating the bug is on the beta site. You can also use the "report a bug" feature in the bottom left corner of the site.
I hope this helps you understand what beta is.

I find it interesting that NOT ONE PERSON FROM chess.com has responded to my posts or me pointing out that I can't get to the "study section" anymore thanks to their misguided action of taking away the link. Clearly they just don't care.
