The colle system
It's similar to a London System I think but the dark squared bishop doesn't develop in the first few moves
I play the Colle Koltanowski.
So far.. as far as my Chess experience goes ..Against 1... d5 it's very solid. It's very rich in tactics and has clear end game goals. There are a lot subtle nuances you have to know in using the Colle Koltanowski. i.e. As in Knowing where an advantage lies when Black deviates from the main lines. The previous seems an obvious statement, but 50% of my wins (at my level 1500-1700 elo) are from Black deviating in an attempt to foil the standard opening play,
The Zuckertort is the other Colle, & many consider this var to be the better of the two. I don't know which one is better than the other.. both employ 1. d4 2. Nf3 3. e3 and 4. Bd3.
Both are good at meeting the QID defense, & Both avoid the Benoni.
It's my experience, with 1.d4 2. Nf3 The king's Indian is a defense where you will have to depart from "normal Colle" opening theory/ pawn structures.
I like What IM John Cox wrote about D4 Deviations in his book. " in the 1930s the top guys didn't know whether these openings ( meaning The Colle The London, The Torre etc) or... the Queens Gambit were better. These were the 2700s of their day."
