Anyone want to mentor me?

Is anyone out there willing to coach me?  I am aiming at a level around 1800, and I am currently an beginner around the 800 rating level.  I understand the rules of the game, but I am still fairly new.  I do not have the time or the money to get local chess lessons, and self teaching via youtube videos and books doesn't seem to be helping.  Anyone out there with extra time on their hands willing to help?

You just joined today. You may have seen videos online. Some of them are well made. Some of them are made by people who barely speak English.

You haven't even tried any of the Lessons here, which used to be called "Chess Mentor". They are well written. They will probably help you get a good start. The tactics problems are very good too. For a small investment, you get video and lessons made by some of the best teachers in the world.

Hello. My name is Speed Scarbro. I also live in USA. My approx. rating, not official but reasonably close, is about 2500 - 2685. However, this does not necessarily make a good mentor/teacher. I would be more than happy to mentor you but I would like to get to know a little more about your goals if you don't mind. How much time do you have to work on chess per week. There is to much that goes into this to post on a forum. Please email me at speedmscarbro@gmail.com and we can get into more detail and determine if we would be a good fit for each other.

2500-2685? Claiming to be one of the strongest players in the country and you haven't played a single game here?

My apologies to all. I'm new here and I get online for business and research purposes only. My schedule really doesn't allow much time for anything else. This was an approximate rating a computer algorithm provided to me based on 50 games between myself and Fritz 8 at its strongest setting on a desktop PC. I don't know how accurate the rating is, but I have no idea what my rating would be in OTB tournaments. My rating isn't the real point in any case. Much more than rating goes into what makes a good fit between a mentor/teacher and a student. However, I believe we are all students of this game and each other.

This forum is for posts about Chess Mentor, now called Lessons.

There are 3,806 lessons available. You have only done 13.

If you want a private coach, you have to pay. Try the coach listings if you want a coach. https://www.chess.com/coaches

You mean you want a free coach.

Most of us can't afford them.

This forum is for posts about the lessons available here on Chess.com. The lessons were called Chess Mentor until recently. That's why there is a forum called Chess Mentor.

You haven't done very many of them. You should keep trying.
