When someone dies this young, it makes you wonder if it was suicide. Nowadays, we are encouraged to discuss mental health issues openly and yet speculating about suicide (which is a likely cause) is frowned upon...

Without information, speculation is a pointless exercise. There are just too many causes of death to base anything on.

He also lost all his final games. Something happened to his mental state.

Yes, it is true. I just saw this, and barely believed it. RIP to (arguably) the most educational chess presence in history.

Vladimir Kramnik spewing hate at him in his final months is truly disappointing, and I hope he issues an apology.

#33, 34, I agree. I do not like to speculate. No ifs, ands, or buts. But he was affected by Kramnik, and it seems that something changed in him. I’m not saying I think that’s what happened, nor am I suggesting it. I’m just saying that I hope he knew how appreciated he was by millions, including myself, in his final moments.
