thats it really. been trying out the sicilian and i get this alot and want a good response. since its so popular maybe smart to play something ambitious against it?

g6 is the most ambitious according to me, as in Caruana - Carlsen WCC 2018, probably the best as well.

thanks but i forgot to add i play the sveshnikov. if this is g6 transposing to a dragonlike position im not sure i want to learn both the sveshnikov and the dragon

sodastream007

No dragon, dragon is after 2...d6. In the position I mentioned white usually plays 4.Bxc6 and black plays 4...dxc6 and both sides have intresting ideas later on.

Carlsen also played Sveshnikov in WCC

i see. i will take a look if i can find somewhere to read about it

I think that 3...Nf6 is more suitable for Sveshnikov players, and this is what Tony Rotella advocates in his fine Kalashnikov repertoire book (although I certainly do not agree with his choice on the main line 3...Nf6 4.Nc3 g6?!).

I play 3...g6. If white takes the knight you recapture with the d-pawn, trying to clear the center for your 2 bishops.

You can reach the Sveshnikov with another move order:
1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 e6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 Nc6 5 Ndb5 d6 6 Bf4 e5 7 Bg5
this avoids the Rossolimo and also avoids the Nd5 variation that Caruana played.

After 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 e6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 Nc6 it used to be thought that 6NxN b7xN 7 e5 Nd5 was challenging but black is doing ok there these days.

In a recent candidates tournament white tried formerly strange tries like 6a3, and 6Qd3 to try to get a game it seems,

I like 3...Nf6.

Ask Shankland - he's the one advocating the Classical Sicilian. He has a Sicilian free course on chessable.
