Hi, I'm trying to figure out some good openings when white plays 1.Nf3 or 1.g4.

I'm preferably looking for a strategical and solid responses, not nessecarly hypermodern.  I'm fond of the KID, Pirc, and modern, but trust me when i say its irrelevant what I play as white.

I've tried toying with the barzca system, but I don't think I really like it =/

A response like 1...g6 could throw an opponent off guard.  I checked the database at chessgames.com and it agrees.

Nf3 - Nf6 or g3 - g6 is usually how i reach a barzca system -.-;;  Basically both sides mirroring eachother.

Thanks for the help, but what i don't like is my kings indian defense facing a kings indian attack.  E.G.

Nf3 - Nf6

g3 - g6 (sometimes I play b6 instead)

Bg2 - Bg7

0-0 - 0-0

d3 - d6 (sometimes I try a grunfeld setup)

e4 to complete his KIA setup.  Generally I follow up c5 then Nc6, facing Nbd2 for a traditional KIA setup, or Nc3 for a slightly modified one.

I love playing both sides of the Grob.  Here is how I would deal with it.  1. g4 e5!  He wants you to play d5.  If 2. h3, then Ne7 and the Knight will head to h4.  If 2. Bg2, then play h5! and White will have serious problems

1.g4 d5 2.h3 e5 You get an edge right off the bat!
