according to the chess.com openings explorer the Sicilian is the best opening for black

Now that we’ve spent the past month learning and analyzing the Alapin, I’ve decided to create a daily tournament where we can test our newfound knowledge.

I encourage you all to join. The link is below.

I don't think anybody learnt anything.

U showed your own analysis, with some nonsense and bad moves from black which don't prove anything.

U just proved u lack some objectivity and skill to assess moves/positions.

So far we’ve got 3 players committed. Keep on joining!!

Haha good luck fine sir!

I also get good results with the c3 (Alapin) Sicilian which is my main choice against the Sicilian, but I do it mostly to avoid being at a disadvantage to players who have memorized many variations after 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3.

Nevertheless, my record with 2 Nf3 .... 3 d4 cd4 4 Nxd4 is even better than my record with 2 c3.  That does NOT make 2 c3 inferior any more than you're good record with it makes it superior.

In the century since Alapin began playing 2 c3, virtually EVERY Grandmaster and all the World Champions have played 2 Nf3.  Do you think they did not see what 2 c3 can do as well as you?

You can reasonably claim that 2 c3 gives you an advantage over most players since they will not know the c3 Sicilian as well as you - you'll know the pitfalls and also know what kinds of middlegame attacks you can generate better than them.

We’re up to 6 players registered for the tournament. I encourage you all to join and try like Holograph Wars to refute the Alapin

Hey staples! There's someone who's older and wiser who has already clarified the Sicilian is one of the BEST openings and the alapin doesn't refute it... make your argument at "The English and Alapin are Refuted" by me. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/the-english-and-the-alapin-are-busted

The Sicilian Alapin Open already has 26/100 of it’s spots filled. The rest are going to go very quickly so join now.

As chess.com’s undisputed ranking master of the Alapin I have generously decided to give this tournament some added importance. The winner of it will be crowned, alongside me, chess.com’s ranking  co-master of the Alapin!

Uh, what if I beat you?

staples13

If you win the tournament you will become co-master of the Alapin with me. My credentials using the Alapin are well-documented and indisputable. Now it’s time for you to prove your credentials

staples13

Yes when grandmasters obtain their GM title it sticks with them for life even if they have a bad tournament.

I proved my credentials in the Alapin by making this thread, so I keep my credentials even if I don’t win this tournament

Shame about the Sicilian Defence.

Used to be a nice opening.

You "proved" some things in this thread, that is for sure...

He proved that he's a genius! It's not everyday a 2000 rated player refutes one of the most controversial openings.
