I’m torn as to whether or not the Delayed Alapin is a wise course of action. On one hand it usually provokes the move 2.d6 which is pretty useless in most Alapin lines, but at the same time I think it’s probably just better to not waste any time and immediately play 2. c3
Insead of wasting our time with ignorant comments, you could just realize it's a very simple transposition (1.e4 c5 2.c3 Nf6 3.e5 Nd5 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nf3 e6 6.cxd4 d6 etc) to one of the most topical Alapin lines.

I have a faint memory of reading somewhere that, at one time, the Ruy Lopez was seen as so effective, that it was proposed (by somebody or other) that the starting position be modified so that Black’s a-pawn would start by already being on a6. Anybody else remember reading something like that?
