Is that game a joke KindaSpongey? First off his name is Evgeny Sveshnikov and he’s a grandmaster rated like 2600 not 2000

Referring to your notion of "one 3 minute no increment blitz game"? Nothing more to say about Evgeniy Svechnikov? Anything to say about possible improvements over 2...Nc6, 4...g6, or 6...e6 ?

Have a quote of a specific sentence?

Spongey, you're the guy with nothing to say, who talks solely through other people's quotes. You don't play games either yet you're bugging him to ... post improvements? ...

If someone is claiming "A Bust to the Sicilian Defense", does that person perhaps have an obligation to consider possible improvements?

You want to talk about fear of playing, why haven't you played a blitz game in 3-4 months?

Because I’ve played like a thousand bullet games instead

Does it affect whether or not the moves are very close to "best play"?

The Sicilian Alapin open has finally ended. Congratulations to Kng53 he is now an Alapin legend. One of the finest Alapin practitioners this game has ever seen. Thank you to all who participated, I hope you enjoyed playing this fantastic opening.

The floor is yours Kng530, it’s time for your well-deserved victory speech.

Even in the thread above, there's a real gem, the bit where a 1900 player (on chess.com's rather inflated daily chess scale) is "one of the finest Alapin practitioners this game has ever seen."  (That's no criticism of kng53, who, I suspect would also be equally amused by the characerization. And winning a 100-player tournament is indeed to be congratulated -- so congratulations!)

Every time I think this thread's about to jump the shark, staples has a way of eliciting a new guffaw.

Vasilis_64

Congratulations to Kng53 and to my friend Staples13 of course.  By the way, I've lost a game using the Alapin against 2...g6 in a 3 days/move.

But its unbeatable!!!!! HOW?!?! Has Staples been lying to us!?!?!

Oh, and the record of "one of the finest Alapin practitioners this game has ever seen” in that tournament? 12-5 as white; 13-3-1 as black.

congrandolor

Woow, I had never heard about that player, congrats!

It might be interesting to know that Magnus Carlsen has a slightly negative score against the c3 sicilian, if one take into account the games he has played since he became a grandmaster, in other words since 2004. A few wins he had back in 2002 were against some 2100 expert players. He has in fact a negative overall score against 2400+ opposition.

Yes great post. I posted a game earlier in the thread of Carlsen getting absolutely destroyed by GM Smerdons Alapin. So the strongest player on the planet can’t beat opponents much weaker than him who play the Alapin. That says all you need to know about the dominance of the Alapin

"... It was a bit of a strange one. I got a pretty comfortable position, and then I had the chance to swap queens and go for an endgame which was just equal, which I was really tempted to do, but then I thought, you know, I'm not going to get this opportunity again. I better be a little bit more aggressive, make myself proud, so I actually went for a king-side attack. We had opposite-side castling, and I rejected the queen swap, put all my pieces towards his king, gave up the bishop-pair, gave up some structural advantages to try and attack and I played some really ugly chess, as I am sure that my team-mates will say, really anti-positional, but the tactics all sort-of worked in my favor. Then I ended up sacrificing a pawn. He played all the critical stuff. I think he played all the best moves, and then I had this huge attack for the pawn. I couldn't quite see a way to break through, and so I just forced a draw. ..." - GM David Smerdon

That’s only part of the interview kindaspongey. He also said that he would not have taken the perpetual against anyone under 2800. He had the much better pos it ion. Completely winning

Anyone can look for themselves and see if "completely winning" was said. In any event, 7...Be7 does not appear to be the only possibility.

Here’s my most recent game. A one minute no increment bullet game. This game is particularly instructive as it features the Staples13 variation of the Alapin where white castles queenside and launches an unstoppable attack on blacks kingside. Enjoy!!

Why you only post games you play against weaker opponents?
