i’m around 1550 and want to get to 2000+. with white i play the vienna and am learning the ruy lopez and with black i have just been playing e5. i really dislike getting the same positions and not having a clear way to win them and i really need an opening that is aggressive and can get me good positions fast. any recommendations?

Black can't expect a good position. And especially not get it fast. Your expectations are unrealistic and reveals a wrong understanding of chess, that wont get you to 2000+. Keep on playing 1...e5 and use your time to improve on your chess.

Finished learning Ruy Lopez and 1… e5? Switch to d4 c4 openings and start learning Sicilian as Black.

The only legitmate aggressive defenses to 1.e4 are the Sicilian and French, but both require a HUGE amount of defensive skill.

Most agressive opening to counter e4 is scandinavian, but not for your level. If youw on't agressive opening, defintly sicilian. If you won't calmer opening, french, caro-kann, pirc and very defensive petrov.

French? Calm? French is that girl in the class who you never gave a chance because she was an introvert but she is actually a freak.

I've heard that the best way to get to 2000 is to study endgames rigorously and not so many openings.
