Am I the only one who plays Nh6 in Defending Wayward Queen Attack?

Is g6 better than Nh6?

Thoughts?

Silent_Assassin

hmm i think g6 is better. because on move 5. ,

they wouldnt always go qf3. they can go back to the start. so g6 is best.

eggrollccc

g6 is definitely better than Nh6.

I recommend to all my students who see this to play g6, just watch out for g6 Qf3 Nf6 and Qb3! White's last trick, just go Qe7 and you are doing well.

Three reasons:

1. To kick the bishop
2. To reserve the opportunity for the knight to get closer to the centre
3. To better defend 4.Qf3

Qb3 won't threaten checkmate though.

Even so you do not want to allow 6. Bxf7+, severely weakening your king's defenses.

Well in general you would not want to allow Bxf7+, severely weakening your king defenses, but IM pfren pointed out if 5...Nd4 then after 6. Bxf7+ Ke7 the f7 bishop will be lost to white.

Nh6 is a blunder as d4 exd4 Bxh6 and you just lost a piece as you can't just regain the piece and defend mate

why would i play d4 i play g6

Yes but why are you putting your Knight on h6 if you're going to play g6

d4 is a blunder

Oof try to understand WHY Nh6 is a blunder. It's not due to d4. Yes it's common for beginners to get tunnel vision at the free pawn and hang a Knight. But for advanced players, why are you playing Nh6 if you can play g6 after Bc4?

T-REX

g6 certainly seems better

G6 after Bc4 is the best move

Playing Nh6 won’t let your knight develop to the centre. Play G6 and fianchetto your bishop.

You have a huge lead in development.

Also if your not alert, your knight might get undermined and you will lose

johnworldesen2200

i dont play exd4 but thanks for tip
