chess theory is documented/explored move(s) in a position in chess

often times theory helps you find the moves that should be played in the positon, and it often helps you find the plans in the opening so you know what your doing

It's important to know what you're doing, or even better to WANT to do the right things, without strictly defining and over structuring "What you are doing" but arriving there through documentation, anecdotes and rote memorization, instead of learning and organic, free flowing insight is horrible.

and one of the worst things you can do in any artisanship or sport.

so in order to learn something correctly i must go back to square 1, redo everything then learn it

how do you think humans got so far?

Ilampozhil25

march is some sort of chess purist, in the way where they want everyone to discover everything by themselves

you do realise that you have a way of doing things, and instead of just promoting it

you are also saying bad on the other way of doing things, which means you want to project your viewpoint on everyone else

Ilampozhil25

if you want to project your viewpoint on everyone else, please just create a topic like i said in post 205

i would be actually interested to see

if you think that your pov is so much better than the existing one, then why not go and explain to everyone how it is better?

this is simple logic, i think

Theory , as defined by rote memorization drawn on to decide moves...

I've been playing chess for 55 years, against opponents varying from beginners to Mikhail Tal himself (in 1988) and I have NEVER heard anyone use such a bizarre definition of Chess Theory.

The proper technical term for rote memorization is... wait for it... "rote memorization".

Is this some sort of con-man's Bait-and-Switch tactic? You might be able to "win" an argument that way, but anyone who is already familiar with the usual rhetorical tricks will spot it immediately.

You played Tal? WOW! 🤩

Ilampozhil25

emu i highly suggest you dont start a conversation with 8thmarch

i didnt understand half the arguments, you probably wont either

theyre also extremely close minded, and have compared theory to steroids, a crutch, and the flat earth theory

Yes

The French have a body built similar to that of humans, so I suggest guns. If you don’t have guns, then a German shepherd would work. The name of the breed alone is enough to fend them off. I hope this helps and good luck

I no longer have that game-score... it was decades ago, and I've moved house five times in the interim, by up to 1,000 km per hop. It was in a simul in Saint John, at the 1988 World Open. I was Black. A Sicilian Najdorf. I drew.

You MUST have seen some of the games that I've posted on the forum... no?

This one, from a rated country vs country match?

A Heroic Defense in the Sicilian Najdorf - Kids, don't try this at home! - Chess Forums - Chess.com

Or this one, from an over-the-board rated tournament?

its funny what i used to play when i knew 0 theory and first started playing chess at 700 elo

i would play like this

i had no idea what i was doing at this time but i liked it

I used to "develop" my Rooks out to h3/h6 and a3/a6 lol. If I remember correctly I had an above 1000 rating on Gameknot and was still doing it.

Sea_TurtIe

i love developing rooks up to h3/a3

but i do it in a less dubious way

there are some variations in the french and caro where it occurs

idk if this is a real opening but ive played it a few times:

is this a seen, real opening?

Emory Tate played the a4 line that you showed

As White, I used to play a bizarre Knight-sacrifice against the Alekhine's. The line allows you to develop BOTH Rooks up the a- and h-files.

Against alekhine i either play the four pawns attack or the exchange variaiton
