Are You Strong Enough to Play the Ponziani

Sort:

The Ponziani Opening will often give you good positions.

However when you get a good position you need to be strong enough to find the best moves.

To start I will give 3 positions from recent games.

ponz111

If you get one out of three you are strong enough to play the Ponziani.

2 out of 3 you can teach the Ponziani

3 out of 3   You are super grandmaster.

No using chess engines please.

Mainline_Novelty

1.Qg6+!! is mate in 2 in the third one.

ponz111

You have to get all three to be a supergrandmaster-not just one! Cool

ponz111

Yes, it is so simple to become a super grand master!  So far I do not believe you have solved all three.  If anyone thinks they have a solution to all three please message me.

These positions are  actually from Ponziani Power vote chess games.

ponz111

I will give one more position.  The requirements to become a super grandmaster now have changed to you have to solve all 4 and if you think you have all 4 please message me.

ponz111

These are hard positions and if anyone gets 3 out of 4 per messaging me I will give full credit for brilliance.

ponz111

It looks like no one is strong enough to play the Ponziani at a very high level?

[and that is a palindrone!]

Irontiger

As if the first and the last position had anything to do with the opening used.

So you mean if I simply solve three not very hard tactical puzzles given by some random, probably sub 2200 guy on the internet, I can be a super GM?! Why wasn't I told it was that easy?!

Sub 2200 guy on the internet? Phah... Hah... Hahahahahah! Laughing

ponz111

Actually the 2nd position has some semblance to a Ponziani line.

All are from recent vote chess games.

ponz111

I think these are really hard even with chess engine help except the mate in 2

1: debatable, but Nf4 is probaly best

2:Bxe7 Qxe7, B4

3: Qg6 hg6 Nh6#

4:Rf8,Qf8,Bf4,Kc8,Rd4

These puzzles had nothing to do with the ponziani, and please post something useful, and something that has to do with that opening (no offense, the puzzles 2 and 4 were fun)

Well I thought that I was a super grandmaster...

ponz111

#1  sorry but Nf4 is not the best move.  After I give the best move and explain why you may see...

#2    Bxe7 is not the best move

#3   yes it is mate in two

#4   someone got the correct answer on this one.

Rf8+   Qxf8   Bf4+   Kc8   Rd4!   this last move threatens mate and the only way to stop mate is to give up the queen.  The opposing team saw this and resigned.

So this leaves  #1  and #2

ponz111

If you want to complain that the positions do not resemble the Ponziani Opening you can but you could say the same thing about such puzzles for any opening.  The fact is these recently came from Vote Chess Ponziani Power playing the Ponziani.

ponz111

#1 and #2 not solved yet--The team on Ponziani Power solved all 4.

ponz111

No person has solved #1 and #2.  These are all vote chess positions.

In the actual game the solution to #1 was not seen by anyone [except ponz] for several hours.  Ponz later gave the solution  and the best move was then voted for.

For position #2  several probably looked at the best move almost immediately and the solution was proposed almost immediately.
