Benko

Easily the Grunfeld.

Benko is busted by both the Fianchetto and King Walk variations.

Those lines are easy to play against.

play benko it is a great opening untill 2700

The benko is inferior to the gruenfeld , which is why several elite GMs have the gruenfeld in their repertoire but not the benko .

True, BUT many masters don't know how to play benko! :P Like I said earlier benko is no good past 2700, you could try though...

Personally I play the modern variation against the Benko but also think the king walk variation gives a white advantage but is more difficult to play than the modern ...

One of my most memorable games in a benko against a strong player .

This game was played in the Lisbon Open 2001 .

what are the lines for benko

Face it the Benko is busted buster. Even Pal Benko didn't play the Benko Gambit alot lol.

An he popularised the Benko Gambit.

The only question would be if white knows how to bust it correctly. Some1 already mentioned those lines though.

Grunfeld tough nut to crack.

Benko will give you better practical results.

Benko is probably busted. Gruenfeld is very sound and not busted.

Benko gives me good practical results.

The line where White keeps the pawn and plays g3 and Bg2 gives good practical results for BLACK.

To play the Benko as Black you need to be a good positional and tactical player.

Since im not a GM, the Benko has been working fine.

Objectively the grunfeld is better. Practically the benko is perfectly playable specially at lower ratings.

There are 2 advantages at playing the benko

1) There is a lot less theory, only a few main systems you have to know. Okay some of these positions give white an objectively slightly better position but certainly not lost

2) Benko is more an ideas opening. Sure you have to know some sharp stuff but in the main line the ideas generally are the same and the plans you can play with black as well. Pieces go to known places. In the grunfeld you as black often have to play slighly unlogical moves to stay in the game and normal moves can lead to better positions for white. So you have to know quite a few of "only" moves.

Personally i had a look at the grunfeld based on Svidlers series on chess24 but it is just soooooooo much i fled back to nimzo

Thriller, I agree Benko is busted by a King Walk variation but disagree it is busted by the fianchetto variation.

Benko. It has better tactical chances and it's known to be relatively sound. The Grunfeld is dry.
