pawn takes pawn is easiest... latvian players love to see night takes... as a former latvian player i finaly gave it up. black usually plays e4 after u pawn takes pawn and attacks the night, most ppl go night d4 which is easy to play, i recommend night e5, and later put your bishop on c4 and u have a good position according to rybka and houdini... make sure u dont fall for a common trap... black will play night f6... and after u fork the queen and rook the queen goes to E7... u take the rook with your night and black will play d5 hitting the bishop.... make sure u go bishop e2 not bishop b3 like black hopes becasue thats the trap. because u lose instantly after blacks bishop hits the queen on g4, u cant defend that... but play bishop e2 to cover and u have an easy win... as black its called the corkscrew gambit... ive caught about 10 people with it and its easy to fall for as white. but just go Be2 and u are fine, also u threaten a nasty check on the exposed king... sorry if this makes no sense to u
Play d3 and aim to bore them. Latvian players hate that, and most will either resign or kill themselves on the spot.

Run MK, that's the only way! And well Nxe4 seems best for white, as i've been smacked by it if i dont play cautiously, another nice try is the counter d4.

carlsen/annand vs houini/rybka... the humans play white and the computer plays the latvisn gsmbit in a ten match series, whos the favorite? that has pondered my mind, it may prove how bad the latvian gambit truly is if the humans can win... although i havent determined whats a fair time control for both sides. any thoughts ppl?
Hey, I just recently learned that this opening that I HATE to see so much actually has a name! I've never encountered it in a tournament but I have encountered it often enough in blitz for it to irritate me.
No I'm not advertising the gambit, and NO I'm not blabbing about how much it sucks..
I was just hoping someone could tell me their best defensive ideas against this gambit.
Thanks-in-advance! :D
