the scotch game was the very first opening i learned and it is very good for white!
Best Opening In Chess: Scotch Game (C44)

OMG thank you all for the support. I admit, this article took me a while to write and research, but I am pleased you are all supporting my chess opening :)
OK, so if you are Black and someone throws these variations of Scotch at you, how do you personally defend?

I've always prefered the Scotch Gambit( 3.d4 - exd4 4. Bc4...) with the Goring gambit added, not exactly top secret, but most people seem to have never seen it, and this usually lead to a MAJOR advantage for white(literally).

Interesting. If you are Black, what should you do after the surprise 4.Bc4...?

But saying there is ONE BEST OPENING is a mistake all openings are good tactics are the only thing that matter.

The scotch game is very slow. If I were too play the scotch, I ALWAYS either play the scotch gambit or the goring gambit so I guess the scotch is decent.
I am still a big fan of the DANISH GAMBIT. I am posting a game I play as white in the danish gambit.
clearly best play by black that game xD
I think the best opening in chess is the Cochrane Gambit. 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nf6 3 Nxe5 d6 4 Nxf7. It has the highest percentage in Chessbase, I think.

Yes but it's refutable at the level of engines starting from d=20 , cf.

Scotch game is good. I see good positions for white if black doesn't make the best and there's always this trap I did twice in OTB opponents who aren't familiar:

A game played in a tournament when I was 10.
The opponent was also 10. And I won. (he was very persistent not resigning)

I recently tried the Scotch game as white, just to brush up. I lasted 6 moves. https://www.chess.com/live/game/2721382985
This is one of the openings suggested by Andrew Martin.
I believe it can diffuse the well rehearsed Lopez player.
Thanks for posting the interesting examples and comments
