best openings
There is no best opening... Just go with the one you're comfortable with, You get better with experience.
Hi! I would suggest classic openings. I wrote a post on the subject, if interested please check it out: https://www.chess.com/blog/maafernan/openings-for-beginners
Good luck!
best for MY MENTAL HEALTH?
hartlaub charlick gambit has completely cured my 1.d4 stonewall straightjacket woes!
here's what did it
it "crushes the london" because 1...e5 takes 2.Bf4, so london is denied
I've been searching in vain for this exact opening my entire chess career! I even remember asking for (maybe even ABOUT) an opening exactly like this where I could sack both of my center pawns for initiative and mobility and gosh golly do I love it!
I knew I loved this opening before I ever played it because I've dreamed of bishop pairs lined up against 0-0 after trashing a high 1700 super fast that way in a scandinavian game. sadly, when I analyzed it, the formation isn't at all sound, but in that game, it was brutal having all my pieces aimed at my opponent's castle with an extra bishop to use for a can opener attack, and this opening DOES can opener attacks!
I absolutely refuse to play fianchettos which INSTANTLY negates pretty much ALL "accepted" aggressive lines against 1.d4 and the albin requires a repertoire to go with it that includes fianchettos.
2.c4 allows black to transpose to the albin making the hartlaub charlick "the rest of my 1.d4 repertoire" though i haven't studied it yet because 2.c4 is rare
this opening fits ME like a glove! it totally speaks my language and gives me tools i can understand unlike wishy washy toothless watered down warm freakin' milk main lines
phtooey!
the days of white punishing me POSITIONALLY are over and now the tables are turned with me crushing 1.d4 out in the open, on my TACTICAL terms. 2:1 kids! 2:1!!!! your results? probably not as good.
I believe, judging from my results, Igor is 110% correct that this opening forces white to play the kind of tactical game he doesn't want to play and agree that it's sooo pressing, that white has a hard time getting initiative. I've driven more than one opponent back and/or regrouped thanks to the super mobility of the opening. sidelines are tricky, now, but study will help there. I make blunders in unfamiliar positions because i simply don't do positional AT ALL.
London is good and easy to learn
Noone agrees with your opinion!
I seem to recall hearing more than 1 GM say that too.
Ahhhh! here we go!
same guy who turned me on to the hartlaub charlick which IS simple and easy to learn and INSTANTLY get 2:1 stats with even! it's not my style, but that hartlaub charlick video was THE BEST opening suggestion I've ever encountered as much as I despised the stonewall and had a losing record with. I would bet this system is instant ratings points for the right players too
