Could you please recommend a black repertoire that gives you positions of a similar character to the English Opening? Thanks in advance.

As usual, 1.c4 repertoire is generally based upon what u play on 1.d4, because of transposition.

Or u can play some independant lines, but telling what u play against 1.d4 would be helpful...

I am not sure, but I think DaniilZelenchuk was seeking Black responses to 1 e4 and 1 d4 with "similar character" to 1 c4 for White.

lol sorry.

Then it is simpler, just try to play c5-g6 in your games...

Accelerated dragon on 1.e4.

On 1.d4, more complicated, there is nothing really like english as black : Grunfeld, king's indian, Benoni, Benko are probably the good set up for you, but it depends on the way u play English...

I go for the Botvinnik when possible, and just generally stick to the lines given in Kosten’s the Dynamic English. As black I currently play the KID and Dragon.

It seems I am not the only one having problems reading and understanding... tongue.png

you could theoretically play 1...c5 against almost anything but the problem is that it may not always lead to positions like the English.

I have played the English allot then if you like to counter attack I suggest the pirc and KID they can be difficult. If you want a more closed game stick with the French or QGD.

C5 is also good if you want to develop a system like approach but know it can be sharp
