It's actually kind of funny when people play intentionally bad moves and claim that because of that the opening is refuted and unsound. Like yeah, if you play crappily you're going to lose. While yes, the Ponziani is generally considered inferior to other Open Games like the Italian or Ruy Lopez, that doesn't make it bad or unsound. Using that logic there are about 5 sound openings and every other opening is complete garbage that no one should ever play.

The Ponziani is fine. It's not for everyone, just like any opening, but it's not bad.

DO NOT PLAY SYSTEMS:

play what you think fits you. Personally I really like the Caro kann and evans gambit. Just do what fits you best.

The English, it doesn't have much theory, it's almost like a system, systems aren't usually good for beginners because it makes them not learn opening principles but the English is a exception

theBigSwingle69

Play the London or the Vienna with white and the KID( Kings Indian defense ) with black these are super easy to learn and also are really good for beginners

the english, but im pretty sure there are different variations of it, could be wrong

Poweranony

The van geet-napoleon attack is very strong and usually gives white strong attack in the kingside and does not require much study.
