Is Wing Gambit viable?

I think that the accepted wing gambit gives white a really good position but the declined variation ( cb4: and d5) is not that much fun. To avoid this it might be an option to play a3 on the second move. There is an interesting book called "The modern anti sicilian" by Sergei Soloviov. If you are interested in the wing gambit this is a book worth reading.

Which Wing Gambit are you talking about. I thought there was 2 Wing Gambits?

is there another wing gambit. I only know the wing gambit in the sicilian.

There was a high school kid who played it all the time at the park where I sometimes play five-minute. He did well with it.

I haven't seen him around in a while. Probably went off to college.

The guys on my college team liked it, but I don't remember them playing it in tournaments.

Like most gambits, I think it's fine for blitz and for class play -- if you like gambits. The trick for Black as usual is to strike back in the center and stay on his toes.

There's one in the French as well. It's kind of similar.

I sometimes enjoy playing the Portsmouth Gambit in blitz, it's one of the better wing gambits out there.
