Danish&Half-Danish Gambit - best defense?

In my most recent games with my friends i have had a lot of trouble against the Danish and Half-danish gambit. After move 20. I'm often down a pawn even that i took 2 pawns in the beginning.

I'm not very good against attacking openings or anyway good with black,as i myself like attacking chess because of it's several chancesto trap, check, mate, and make position better. What should i play against this opening? This is what i usually play against Danish gambit.

So, as you can see, i'm in a serious trouble after e5 is played.

1.e4 e5 2.d4 exd4 3.c3 d5! is a good way to decline the gambit and basically just leads to a dead equal game, often an endgame as well. Of course, if you want to try to refute it, you must accept it, but then you are giving white exactly what he wants, and I don't think there is a refutation either. So try the line I suggested, it is called the Capablanca defense.

Several lines--I like 3...Qe7 as Black which makes it a little tricky for White to develop easily. The 5...d5 line suggested by Eaglex is also OK for Black though ,my score with White in this line is pretty good. Also 5....Bb4 is probably better than Nf6 as it gives Black  ..,Qe7 possibilities.

Thank you for that!

I tried those against my friends and aksi against a computer(GNUChess 4), and i won my friend and drawed the computer.(awesome though, as i've never won it and this is my firt draw against it..)

7...Ng8? Don't retreat and give your opponent more attacking chances! Counterattack with 7... d5!

The ending reached after the mainline in the danish is completely equal, but with white having and kingside majority and black having a queenside majority there are still plenty of winning chances for both sides. If one side has a better understanding of that endgame that should give them a big advantage.

5...Nc6 followed by 6...Bb4+ refutes the Danish Gambit.  All credit to Steinitz.

Thank you all! I've started to even win matches with using your tips and variations, and that is remarkable.
