Defences to the Parham Attack

@Yereslov Having fun with it is fine, the problem is that gavinator and whatup go around claming it's 'the best opening ever' and that the Ruy Lopez and King's Gambit are crap, that's what bugs people.

(The fact that they are stubborn and ignorant is also annoying.)

Wow...youve beaten a guy, who´s 300 points below you and that should be the proof, that the Parham is the strongest opening in the universe...Parham-worshippers are strange...

It's a playable opening. There is no refutation for it.

A real expert has spoken...

I posted a game by Nakamura.

He agrees it's a playable opening, so have many other GM's.

I give a sh.. if its refuted or not, but why are the Parham-worshippers spamming this server with hundreds of different threads about an unimportant little opening???

Because the opening is a lot more fun than playing your typical, dull, and repetitious 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6.

At least this opening is not studied to death.

Most opoonents start raging when they see it and mess up.

Quoteception.

And the KG is tactical, but easily stopped. Parham is just as tactical, I don't see why it gets hated on so much.

Other Than 1 move threats, there are no tactics for White unless Black horribly blunders, and with perfect play that is impossible.

Botvinnik, who wasn't playing the Ruy himself, has claimed that the Ruy Lopez is the greatest chess school one can afford.

Of course this requires that you are able to learn something, which is hardly the case with the vast majority of the Parhamsters.

Nakamura, an opponent something like 300-400 points higher than you, finds the Parham Attack perfectly fine.

He even promotes it. Like I have said throughout the whole forum, where's the refutation?

Several GM's love this opening. It gets players away from opening books that modern players are so fond of reading.

There are several threats. It leads to an even game.

At best, black is more than likely going to make an error.

Just for your information...i dont play QGD and Ruy Lopez. My standard openings are the Blackmar-Diemer-Gambit, the Latvian, the Elephant and the Englund Gambit, they are also FUN, but i dont need endless threads and disscussions about these openings. Just play your beloved Parham and close all threads about it, because we wont find a solution, regardless the number of threads which deal with this crap.

Eris_Discordia

Nakamura hasnt played the Parham in a serious game in years, and can you name these 'Several GM's'.

So you're not arguing against the opening, but against the threads?

How is that any different than the countless Sicilian Defense threads?

Let's see if Yereslov can understand this.

If both sides do a decent job playing the position after Qh5 after 4 or 5 moves the position should be about as favorable to black as the initial position was favorable to white.  I would bet big that Nakamura would agree with that.  That means:

a) The opening is playable just as black's position at the beginning of the game is playable

b) The opening is refuted because white's goal in the opening is not to give away his opening advantage and emerge somewhat worse.

I'm sorry that the not so very subtle meanings of the words "playable" and "refuted" are not known to you.

He doesn't emerge somewhat worse.

Nakamura had a winning game.

But so is white.

Between human players this opening is fine.

If black can eqqualize in 8 moves or less against any white moves, the opening is refuted.  Parham = refuted.

The game is equal from the start. It can lead to either a win or a loss.

It's pointless to keep arguing it's refuted. Several GM's like this opening and find it fine.

gambiteer12

No it is not fine. Against a sub-1400 like me you will get a decent game. It is unlikely that you will get a decent game vs. someone higher rated than yourself playing illogical moves.

pfren

Nakamura has played the Parham just twice under regular time controls, and was lucky to score half a point with it. All the rest from him are blitz games. Last game dated 2005.

Please go on with your picturesque nonsense.

The_Gavinator

How about whatupyodog? He's beaten 1900's on here with this.

Rubidium

How about respect?

That's an IM you're talking to.

Did you read his comment. He said he had even game had he played the middle game properly.

The opening had nothing to do with the games.

I don't care who he is.

The opening is playable and several GM's suport it.

Eris_Discordia

Who are these 'several GM's'?

gambiteer12

Nakamura said it was playable. Saying its playable is not the same as supporting it. The Muzio Gambit is playable and many other stupid things named after animals. Several GM's???? Quotes please?

Yereslov

For one Andrew Martin and Hikaru Nakamura.
