Think Sicilian is one of the best replies of e4. If you give it in an opening explorer (i.e. here in chess.com) you see, that the score of white and black is nearly the same. Compared with, let´s say with the Caro-Kann you see it clearly:
BUT, these are all only games from the masters of chess. To play the sicilian right, you have to study it for years. I tried one time to learn only the rossolimo attack, uff, dozens of sidelines, no chance to memorize this to play it right. I decided to go to other openings which have more "general Ideas" I can learn and follow and less fixed variations. So I always play against the sicilian the grand prix attack for example.
Yes, Sicilian is a good defence.
It’s good, but it takes a lot to play it right. Caro-Kann felt very easy to play after I learned the basic ideas and the pawn structures that come up. Sicilian, I had to put away until I had a lot more chess games under my belt, and even now I’m much preferring something like the Kan or closed variations over something like the Najdorf or the Dragon

Ye I always do Kan Variation, which can just be plain chaos, so is Najdorf or Dragon, so you may want to try Hedgehog Variation or whatever it’s called

#18 that well may be. To be honest, I keep going for Hedgehog positions out of a Kan, so it’s possibly that I’m not playing the most Kan-style Kan either.
