e6 vs. g6 Indian Systems

I have decided to play the Indian defenses to 1. d4. I am having trouble choosing between the KID on the one hand, and the Nimzo-QID on the other.

Could you guys help?

Seems to me that the KID has a more solid defensive reputation. And it can be played against c4 and e4 as the Pirc. So that is a nice point.

Any thoughts on the matter?

from what i've been told, the KID can be played against many White openings and it's very solid. it's the preferred choice for many masters.

see my thread here for some further discussion.

That KID is a fighting opening, and I wouldn't go for it if you wanted something "solid." This is not to say that it isn't a reliable opening, it's just more aggressive and dynamic than the e6 systems in general, or so I've heard.

The Grunfeld is another g6 system, and it's quite different than the KID, but it also is a fighting opening.

The Nimzo is much more solid than the KID. In the KID black often has to go for broke on the kingside, and there are a lot of forcing theoretical lines. It is still playable at all levels though and will give you good winning chances, just be prepared to study a lot of KID theory. The nimzo is theoretical too, but it is usually less tactical and there is less chance of either side being blown off the board.
