Nothing is wrong with the Closed Sicilian. If your fine with a draw, then it's a perfect opening for you.
Not all variations of the Closed Sicilian are passive. Who would call the Grand Prix Attack passive?

Grand Prix Attack =/= Closed Sicilian
Anyways, I have no idea where people get the impression that the Closed Sicilian (with g3) is passive...

Yusupov did better at Candidates than Uhlmann ever did as far as I can tell.
Yes, but Uhlmann has still an elo over 2300, he used to have more than 2500 in his best time, more than the rating of Robin Moss (= Bluebird1964).
Playing against the french with white is a headache to me. I normally exchange or do the KIA set up. See Fischer-Myagmasuren (sp)

It is a bad in the beginning. Then it depends, can be bad or good. That's the problem of French Defense.

I think he means he studied with a GM, and beat him in an exercise with the GM gave him a Queen+a Rook handicap just to test his ability.
