Never would have expected that someone would fall for my Fried Liver Attack. Wanted to remind every new chess player how not to play:

This is going to become my favourite....

Thanks, go to watch out for this move.

Take a look at the lolli attack.  It's similar to the fried liver but much more sound

Was it a one minute bullet game?

I know that players tend to fall for Fried Liver Attack in fast games, but here the player was just inexperienced. The game was either 15m or 30m.

P.S. I sent him a message explaining what happened and link to wiki article about the attack, he replied he would look it up :)

When I had this played against me some time ago, I came out of it winning his knight for the price of two pawns & went on to win the game & I hadn't even seen it before (I didn't even know it had a name)!

It's far from foolproof so be careful playing it against more experienced players.

Nxd5 isn't a bad move, it is just less sound than the alternatives Na5 and b5, although Nd4 is also a move (but transposes to b5).

After d4!, Nxd4 c3 b5! is OK for Black.

The FLA is refuted for White, as computers have shown that Black can survive the onslaught and win due to his extra knight.

You should check out my last live game, don't pull your queen out to early, I don't care how much of the center you end up controlling, as I demonstrated development is everything in a sharp line like the fried liver. I only have a smart phone for internet connection so I can't post pgn games in here, but I believe the game I played was instructive.

Okay a few thoughts here.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 b5 (although 5...Nd4 can transpose back into the same line, theory has found that 5...b5 is the more accurate move order) 6.Bf1 Nd4 7.c3 Nxd5 8.cxd4 has been shown to lead to a clear advantage for white.

It hasn't been proved that black has refuted the Fried Liver Attack yet (certainly some lines are refuted, but with best play it has been shown that white gets 3 pawns for the piece with initiative).  So in other words, it is balanced, but not necessarily an equal game.  But the point is moot when there is a better alternative in the Lolli Attack (6.d4! instead of 6.Nxf7).

The only real mistake here is playing 5...Nxd5, and to a lesser extent 3...Nf6.

3...Nf6 is not a mistake, it is a main line...

Yes black gives up a pawn to gain tempos and piece activity.  It is a dynamic equality.

If you are a really materially focused player who is not skilled in those positions, you would be better off playing 3...Bc5.

just before knight sac i ran this position through an engine queen to a5 is the best move and i can see why

I'm not sure if white is winning is material and it's not really a great move if black response with be6 after white's Qf3.

white is winning in material and if black plays be6 knight takes gives the bishop pair

I know, but you sacrificed a knight for the knight so it's even.

not quite white has a gigantic positional advantage and the bishop pair

I once played the fried liver, but it's really no good against anyone with any chess concepts; it just leaves you with a bad position. But sometimes I do venture out to try unusual gambits and stuff.
