good gambits as white

5..h6 is the idea of the gambit. It is an active gambit because Nxf7 forces Kxf7! 5..h6 has not refuted the gambit at all. That's where it begins. Black doesn't HAVE to play h6 however...

Blackmar is quite decent in practical terms... especially if your opponent accepts blackmardiemer... it gives you plenty of activity and fast development, natural moves, and attacking chances... not to mention you will be in more familiar trappy territory than your opponent... all of that for one measly pawn. In rapid and especially blitz, a gambit doesn't get much better than that
