i play 3. nc3 and try to bait them into playing a Winawer where i have a lot of knowledge for both sides. Steinitz and Classical french after nc3 don't scare me
Good weapon against the French?

uh...lines i guess. Poisoned Pawn and Main line

show us!
I'm not showing the entirety of the public forums my opening prep lol. I just got the knowledge, you know??

Well ok, after the poison pawn mainline position is reached, black plays cxd4 Nge2 Nc6 f4 dxc3 Qd3, can you talk about this position and how impractical white's position is, who's endgame is better and who's king is safer, what do both sides want? Also please tell us what are black's option, one that's modern main line, other that's considered old and incorrect but than Anish Giri reinnovated

Answer that I just wanna make sure how much you actually know or if you just know the main line and that;s it

white's position is impractical, but if he can keep the center stable and the king semi-defended, white is just up material. black will of course try to use the knights to pressure the center of the board and put a bind on white, maybe using the open files for the rooks. after bd7, white can choose from nxc3 followed by rb1 after a6, qxc3 and rb1 again after nf5, or play rb1 immediately where white is somewhat allowing black to play d4.
endgame should be better for white because of the passed pawns on the kingside, but black has good chances with the queenside pawns as well. Black's king is obviously safer after 0-0-0. as for the last point, i don't know what Giri reinnovated. I just prefer white's side of the poisoned pawn variation given the material advantage.

of course, most people my level just castle after qg4 so I dont get to play this much anyway. i think ive had two games with the poisoned pawn variation and in one of them, the opponent just forgot to play rg8 and just gave me a free rook

you forgot d4 which is the mainline instead of Bd7
Anyway, white's position is very impractical, because let's consider the position on move 12, Neppo tried to play g3 and Bg2 but he wasn't in time to capture the c3 pawn, and black managed to push the queen back with d4 and made the c3 pawn a protected passed pawn on the third row. If he takes ths pawn his pieces are uncoordinated and again he is not in time to castle.
However since white is up material and has the passer on h2 and g4 can help, white wants an endgame, black wants to prove his sacrificed material and attack the king

lol

Thank you everyone so much for the feedback I really appreciate it! I’m definitely going to study some of these lines find which one I like the most!
Black goes for the king in this game, and typically in the winawer, so it would be impractical for the OP To play Nc3 wouldn't it?
