hi
middle is the brains of chess.
Make sure you choose openings that fit your style. If you are a tactical player, do not choose the English opening with white, and the French Defense with black, for instance.
opening is the heart of chess.
I think opening is a blessing and a curse to chess.
a curse because opening is basically only memorizing moves and sometimes you play against players who just tries to trick you with an opening.

If you think that then you're going about learning the opening entirely the wrong way. Like any other part of the game it should be about understanding 1st and foremost.

How many players do you think understands the ideas behind the variation and not only following some moves because it is part of an opening line.
you can play like a GM without knowing why if you have a good memory. It is farely easy to remember 10 moves in an opening line.
I have studied the Caro Kann and I partly understand the ideas of it and the resulting pawn structure. if I play the opening like I should according to the book. it is more or less a GM playing.
That is the reason why I dislike the opening because it is not at "players level"- they are played at GM level and unless you know the opening you are up against you are going to play a wrong move. because many opening eg. Najdorf have been developed through many years of playing at GM level.
playing against an opening you might as well play against chessmaster or Fritz it is at same level.
if on the other hand you reach the middle game you play at the players level.

Most strong players.

But where will you be when the line ends or if your opponent plays a non-book move? If you don't have an understanding of your opening probably quite stuck because all areas of the game are linked. The player who understands their openings will most likely have an advantage in the middlegame over someone who doesn't.

So why in that case did you say the "opening is basically only memorizing moves"?

Not really. No book covers everything. You won't usually deal with the situation as well as a GM would if your opponent plays something not in the book.
