Hi, I am having trouble trying to find a aggresive opening against 1.e4. I have played the sicilian but I keep on losing please help

Arctor

Maybe you're being too aggressive?

Hey Rohan11,

I'm not that experienced with chess in general but from what I DO know I think the Scandanavian defense is an excellent way to agressively counter 1.e4, with ...d5! Immediately challenging whites claim to the centre. Check it out!

Hi Rohan11,

Maybe spend some more moves developing towards the center to gain control of it before attacking. I have fairly good luck with the Sicilian opening myself. But most times I've found myself in trouble have been due to attacking too early.

Personally I was in the same situation earlier today, i won, playing d3, nf3, na8, e5, b3, ba3 and then castling, this also seems to work if the opponent plays nc3 or nf3 from the start...

The Sicilian is one of the more imbalanced openings - it's imbalances that create tension and aggressive counterattacking opportunities. An opening won't win you a game (although a poor one will certainly lose it). Tactics are where you want to focus on - in particular the base foundations of piece/square safety and how to attack/defend. That being said, try out a bunch of the different defenses to find out which you enjoy playing and which feel more natural to you. www.thechesswebsite.com has some great introductory opening videos to take a look at.

Opens up a bunch of good openings you can use.

Rohan, if you're losing when playing the Sicilian, but you understand "why" you are losing and you take steps to stop losing that way and correct that part of your game it might not be bad to be losing a few games.

I was having problems getting killed when playing the Sicilian, but I kept at it and learned to eliminate those mistakes.

Then I switched to the French for a while to give myself a second option and to avoid playing the Sicilian against Experts (I was about 1500 at the time, am 1680 now with a short journey over 1720).  Now I'm trotting the Sicilian back out.

Just learn from the losses and you'll be fine.  But give yourself a second option as well.

You're playing the Sicilian wrong then. I also play it and I often win with it as well.
