Yeah, in terms of learning the ideas and themes of the KID Smirin's book is arguably the best.
However, if you need straight theory, either get Bologan's King's Indian or the 5-Volume series by Kotronias
Search "King's Indian" here....several good books on KID are recommended...

Starting out king's indian by Gallagher, though a bit old, is a very good book to get ideas and theory.
I like "First Steps King's Indian Defense" by Andrew Martin. He explains the ideas and pawn structures well and gives you a good grounding in the different main lines . For the sheer volume of high quality King's Indian games, try "The King's Indian According to Tigran Petrosian" by Igor Yanvarjov.
Wonderful book. 289 KID games by Petrosian from both the white and black sides. You will learn a lot about the opening and chess strategy in general.
