How would you recommend learning openings? From a book? Maybe using the computer?

You can learn openings from books, computer programs (like Fritz), master games, improvement of opening moves in your own games, from other players, from data bases, and from articles (like ones at chess.com).  There are lots of opinions on how to learn openings. There are lots of ways to plan your opening repetoire. How you decide to go about it depends on your skill level and what you want to accomplish.

I have to answer your question with another question:  why do you want to learn openings?  If the answer is to improve your chess, then stop.  My recommendation is to work on lots of tactics problems instead.

It is easy to be lured into an unfathomable labyrinth of openings studies which do nothing to improve your chess.
