Hello chess friends! I recently had encountered 9.Nb3!? against the main line of the Sicilian Dragon and I'm having difficulties with it recently in my blitz and rapid games in my local chess club. Can someone share me his solution against this line? Thanks!

Be6, followed by Rc8 seems pretty logical.

When I look at that position the most natural moves are indeed first Be6, then next move likely Qc7. My point is if white castles long, we could use the placement of b3 knight by playing a5, for example from this position:

1. ... Be6 2. Bd3 Qc7 3. O-O-O a5 4. h4 a4 5. Nd4 Nxd4 6. Bxd4 Rfb8 with b5 to follow is an idea I would use, especially if it was blitz.

I checked with database and engine and indeed Be6 is by far the strongest move (Nb3 misplaces the light-squared bishop).

My database shows that white scores very poorly in Nb3 line (<35% score for white). It seems that with normal development and steady queenside expansion black will get ahead in their attack.

The problem is on practical play its hard to prove it. I've played ..Be6 line a lot of times against strong players (2000-2100 level) and they have responded with a4 after I play a5. One sample line that I went for was 9..Be6 10.0-0-0 (crucial else black plays d5) a5 11.a4 Bxb3 12.cxb3 Nb4 13.Bd4 (the idea is to eliminate Bg7 when black manoever his knight from f6-d7-c5) Rc8 14.Kb1 Nd7 15.Bxg7 Kxg7 16.Qd4+ Kg8 17.h4 Nc5 18.Bc4 h5 and here white's attack began crushing through.

If you're having trouble against a minor deviation like 9. Nb3, then it's clear that you are simply memorizing lines, and do not understand your opening at all.  Just saying....  This is ridiculous, haha.

I just read you saying the Scandinavian isn't good in another thread, so you should probably keep these high-minded thoughts to yourself, lest you come off looking like a rube.

Like everybody said above me, Be6 develops bishop while preventing white bishop moving to c4 (but it blocks the central pawn advances).
