How to play against the Bowlder Attack

Sort:
Deductive

As black I almost exclusively play the Sicilian Defense. It is IMO one of the sharpest lines against 1. e4. One of the variations that I have seen lately is the Bowlder attack. I'm not quite sure how to play against this opening. Here's a game that I played in Live Chess today against the said attack. I should have won this game and if I had more time, I probably would have. However a series of mouse slips and blunders took away my win.

Lots of silly mistakes on my part.

Hopefully the chess game comes out right.

Try playing this way:

Black is a bit better here, with a nice pawn centre and easy development.

How do you post the chess board in here!? I want to do it but dont know how?

Yes, 2...e6 is the most natural way to play against Bowlder. Btw there is a chessboard symbol in the upper left corner of the reply window.

That is what I do as black

White didn't play all that well so the opening wasn't a problem. One thing about 2...e6 is that you need to be ready for transpositions to open sicilians.

This is what I don't like about 2.Bc4:

Please check the spelling ... it may be the Bowdler attack?

Entertaining game.  Your opening was fine.  You were actually winning for most of the game and were too pessimistic about your position.  See the notes as follows.

You actually think you were winning this game?

hmm, how about how do you response on Nc3 instead of Nf3

Of course he thinks he was winning this game. He was completely winning throughout except for the last maybe 5-7 moves.

Nc3 is not a problem:

Matter of taste, I suppose. I think both lines are OK.

The OP is like gone already (account closed). Why the heck is this thread "most recent"?
