Icelandic Gambit

A truly great opening for tactical players (almost as fun as the Smith-Morra)!

I don't often get the chance to play it as my opponents often *play the wrong moves* - either declining the initial pawn (1. e4 d5 2. e5), defending the pawn with the knight (1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. Nc3), or with the bishop (1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. Bb5+ Bd7 4. Bc4).

Here's a game from live chess just now where my opponent played ball and my opening worked a treat - surprising given they were rated 230 points above me; and thought a lot about their moves. If only it worked more often!

Excelent play.  When I saw the 11th move my jaw dropped.

As a Scandi player, the rare occasions I can get this in usually results in some devastation.

I love the icelandic gambit, my choice defense to 1. e4

Thrashing a player 200+ texaspete . . . nice game!

A great article to help you learn it is here. Though like I said, the opportunity to play it rarely arises - maybe 5% of all Scandinavian Defence games I play

Thank you for posting this.  Please refer to my blog for a few other variations:

I'm doing a lot of research on this gambit.  Currently I'm in process of exploring 5.Nf3 - If anyone is familiar with these lines drop me a note!
