nobody below 2000 knows the theory to most openings other then their own. ive had alot of games that go like this

some wacky position where im likely equal or better and have to convert it without knowing very much

I know theory for 7 openings.

Sea_TurtIe

When they say

"Sicilian players are used to always playing their Open Sicilian lines! So play this random offbeat move to surprise them!"

Really? That's what you guys think?

You forgot to show the candice variation.

@samuelajedrez95

yeah i love how they say that when 95% of our games are some Bc4 line, alapin,or some other bogus line that does not go d4

The candice variation.

Do you not know of the candice variation?

Its 2. Ba6 the candice gambit.
This gambits a bishop in exchange for double pawns and good attacking chances.

Edit: It's strange that im not doing well with the queens gambit, because 90% of the time i get a better position in the opening! Idk, mabye its just not a good opening for the middle and end game.

Im probably gonna try out the kings indian or catalan, which i already know quite well, and see if that helps at all.

SamuelAjedrez95

It doesn't work like that. The point of the opening is to get you a good position for the middlegame. If you are getting a good position from the opening but not in the middlegame then that means the opening is working but you need to improve your middlegame play.

You are not helping yourself by blaming the opening when there's nothing wrong with it. You need to identify your own weaknesses instead of saying it's the opening's fault.

If the general consensus was that "the queen's gambit is good in the opening but bad in the middlegame" then no-one would play it at master level, but it's the main continuation after 1. d4 d5.

This statement "queen's gambit is good in the opening but just not a good opening for the middle and end game" is such a gross misunderstanding. That's completely wrong.

Sea_TurtIe

often on lichess i get this position in the queens gambit

you can play Qd3, Rfd1,Rac1, and restrict blacks play and play on the queenside and youre often allways better

Try out the pirc defense for black. It's solid and throws people off by moving your first few pawns only one space at a time.
