I might be late to the party and necro bumping but H4 isn't a bad opening for White, you can see what your opponent will play and then respond against it. Even a lot of GM players used the Kádas Opening, depending on what center piece your opponent plays you can change up your game plan.
"Giving" a piece to your opponent isn't even true. As long as you follow up with going for the center after H4 then you're golden on the opening.
OK, it’s weird,but white is basically playing black- with a pawn grabbing space on the kingside.
