Is the Sicilian meant for chess experts only?

I believe that my record with the Sicilian is worse than with my other preferential moves against 1. e4. This is despite the fact that I have read that 1... c5 is Black's best scoring response to White's 1. e4. So does this mean that you need to be of a certain skill level to play 1... c5 successfully?

yes I believe it is more sophisticated than any other opening choice for black.  I gave up playing it myself for the same reason.  Now I just play the Caro kann, its an easy life.

I wish to correct the statements made by Rat1960 & Blueemu

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6

The above move order is the Sicilian Dragon not the Accelerated Dragon like Rat1960 said!

1.e4 c5 2. g6

The above move order is the Hyper-Accelerated Dragon not the Accelerated Dragon like Blueemu said!

1.e4 c5 2.Nc6

The above move order is the Accelerated Dragon.

2.Nc6 is an illegal move.

Very weird

It doesn't show 2.Nc6 on my screen?

Do you not see the Nf3?

I guess the text isn't reading my Nf3 for some reason.

However, some how my Nf3 is highlighted.

I will try again.

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 g6

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6

Does it show the Nf3 now?

Not weird for me that you dont even know how to annotate a chess move.

Also 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 is not any kind of Dragon.

Imao! You want the exact move order?

I keep forgetting you are an engine player who needs thing completely set up for him.

However, that is completely fine.

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 g6

Been starting preliminary study into the Caro-Kann and it looks promising. But isn't that what everybody says about their potential 1.e4 defense solution?

Nick Charles: (Too hard to write witihout vowels!)

Maybe I'm thinking the grass is greener, but the C-K does look promising as a straightforward 1.e4 solution. I just get itchy when I think of playing it.

I am an 1.e4 player so they can Always play 1...c5 against me and it happens very often.

Thats why I have to know a bit of each variation.  1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 the Dragon variation.  5...a6 is the najdorf variation.   1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 g6 Accelerated Dragon.  1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e5 Svetnikov variation

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 e5 Kalasnikov variation.  1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 a6  O Kelly variation.

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Nc6  classical Variation.   1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 Taimanov variation 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 a6 Kan variation or Pin variation.  1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 e6 Scheveninger variation. 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 closed variation  1.e4 c5 2.c3 Alapin variation. And many more stuff.  The adavtage for black is you can just study one variation.

X_PLAYER_J_X

The main point I was trying to make is:

2...g6

is the Hyper-Accelerated dragon

The reason this is important is because black has to prepare for side lines which he wouldn't normally have to prepare against using the 2...Nc6 move order.

One line in particular is the below one:

The above position wouldn't be possible in the 2...Nc6 variation.

In contrast,

The variation which 2...Nc6 allows white to play other side lines which he wouldn't be able to play against the 2...g6 variation.

Such as the Rossolimo!

Sorry, I forgot you didnt know how the pieces moved!

The position which I was trying to demonstrate is the Accelerated Dragon you moron!

The dragon is played with the below move order:

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6

3.Bb5 isn't even playable in that position.

It is 3.Bb5+.

I forget you don't know what a check is.

You never give one yourself. You let your engine do it.

BronsteinPawn

Really? You said 2...Nc6. Is it too hard to read your own post? Look again at what I quoted from you and what I was talking about.

Also, keep your stupid accusations to yourself. Is that how kids answer when they get destroyed?

BronsteinPawn

I like how XcryBaby is losing his temper! Keep the love comming!!!

BronsteinPawn

My engine must be great! How did I manage to move so fast in this bullet game?!?!?!!?

X_PLAYER is correct that 2...g6 is the Hyper-Accelerated Dragon.

The H-A Dragon is the Black 1.e4 system in Alburt's "Chess Openings for Black Explained."

I played it for a while until someone played the Maroczy Bind against me. I didn't like it. I think there is a certain amount of handwaving in the Alburt book on the Maroczy.

I went back to the French.

2...Nc6 is not any kind of dragon, but I guess you are talking about another comment.

What do you dislike about the Maroczy positions? I think if Black is booked up in the modern plans with a5-Nd7-Nc5 he is quite ok.
